|Construction site of Liberty High School on Leon Rd|
We spoke with PUHSD and asked for more information on this project and the timeline. Today by email, we heard from Hector Gonzalez, the Director of Facilities for PUHSD, "Yes, construction has begun on Liberty High School. Work began back in February on the site and crews are currently working on earthwork and grading for the project."
Indeed, this new school is currently under construction at the corner of Leon Rd and Wickerd Rd. This is north of Scott Rd, in a very rural area just east of Menifee. We drove out to the site to see it for ourselves. Admittedly, since it is somewhat out of the way, very few people would stumble across this project, although it is huge.
Mr Gonzalez said, "If you drive by you can see the large amount of rock that is being crushed on the site as well as equipment moving dirt through the grading operation." You can visit this google maps link for directions.
The good news continued from Mr Gonzales, "We are working towards opening for students in August of 2021".
Considering many 'French Valley' kids currently end up going to Paloma High School, far into Menifee, this will make many local families happy with possible shorter drive times. Keep in mind, at the time of this publication no updated boundary information was provided by PUHSD.
Often times the school board will have community workshops to gain input from parents when it comes time to change school boundaries. Assertive parents will want to keep in close contact with the district to get the most up-to-date info.
French Valley families who live in the Temecula Valley Unified School District or Murrieta Valley Unified School District will not be affected by this new high school when it is completed.
For families living in PUHSD boundaries (see this link to view google map boundary info on the PUHSD website), you can see a video, artist renditions and the site plan for the school here: https://www.puhsd.org/pages/high-school-4.
